Hydrospeed is a complete buzz, and in a very different way to white water rafting. Yes, you'll be going down the same stretch of white water as you would when rafting. And yes, you'll be wearing the same sort of safety equipment and look pretty silly. But where as in a raft, you're either on the white water or going through it for in instant, hydrospeed involves being IN the white water, ALL the time! |
Before the safety briefing, you'll get kitted out in your hydrospeed gear – an extra thick wetsuit, life-jacket, neoprene socks, fins, helmet and leg protectors (bit like cricket pads). The during your safety briefing, you'll be given your hydrospeed – like a boogie board, but very thick and made of sponge. |
Once you're in the water with your instructor, the first gentle section of the rapids will be you learning how to steer and manoeuvre. Seeing as you always go down, and it's nigh on impossible to reverse up the stream, the choices are quite simple – left or right! |
Using your fins and how you lean on the hydrospeed, you'll be shooting the rapids and white water in the all the best spots in no time. It can be a little disconcerting when at times all you see is white water. |
However, once you get the knack of it, hydrospeed is very exhilarating, and great fun when all your mates are hitting the white water "hotspots" at the same time! And the stories you´ll be telling in the local bar about all those stunts you pulled whilst hydrospeeding will be legendary! |
